Restoration work at the Toronto Railway Museum is always on the go! Our latest projects are the Canadian Pacific “Cape Race” and Dominion Atlantic “Nova Scotia,” pictured above.
Volunteers will restore Cape Race, including lighting and several cabins. Also, they will create new exhibit space in Nova Scotia, as well as additional storage space for the museum.

Past projects
Since 2010, the restorations crew has worked on many of our artifacts. Below, you can see some of our previous projects.
H.K Porter Inc built the six-ton 40.5” gauge Porter fireless locomotive in 1906. It operated at the Plymouth Cordage Company’s plant in Welland, Ontario.
The materials in that plant were highly flammable so the engine was designed to have its “boiler” filled with compressed air outside of the plant. It operated much like a steam locomotive except for not using steam in its operation.
The City of Toronto donated this switcher type locomotive, CP Rail 7020 (class DS10-b, serial 72855) in 1986 for a planned museum in Roundhouse Park.
In 2014, a team of TRHA volunteers worked hard to bring the diesel engine in this locomotive back to life. They succeeded in running it under its own power in the fall of 2014, and repainted it in early 2019. It now wears its as-delivered 1944 paint scheme.
Toronto, Hamilton and Buffalo Railway constructed this Caboose #70 in 1921 in their Aberdeen (Hamilton, ON) shops. Workers added steel sheathing in the 1950s. TRHA Volunteers completely restored the interior and exterior of this caboose. It is now available to view on our Roundhouse Park tours.
