TORONTO RAILWAY MUSEUM (TRM) TO HOST VIRTUAL LECTURE EVENT, “ALL ABOARD THE SAFETY TRAIN” — RAILWAY SAFETY IN CANADA
On September 29th, Learn How Canadian Railways Keep Us Safe
September 9, 2021 (TORONTO, ON): Toronto Railway Museum (TRM), a non-profit organization located in the iconic Roundhouse Park across from the CN Tower, debuts the theme of its sixth lecture in the 2021 Virtual Lecture Series, Railway Ties: “All Aboard The Safety Train: Railway Safety in Canada”. The event takes place on Wednesday, September 29th at 7 p.m. and will be led by experts Peter Mohyla and Rob Romano, members of Operation Lifesaver Canada’s Ontario Committee.
Operation Lifesaver is dedicated to preventing collisions at railway crossings and railway trespassing incidents in Canada. It achieves this goal through innovative public-awareness and education campaigns. This interactive event will allow attendees to go behind the scenes of Toronto’s railways, including a virtual tour of the Whitby Rail Facility.
Proceeds from ticket sales will go towards future programming and support the collection, preservation, and restoration of Canadian rail artifacts and important historical interpretation at the TRM.
Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased on TRM’s website here. Tickets are $15 (plus HST and fees) and will allow attendees to access a Zoom meeting with our presenters. They will participate in a live Q&A session and have a chance to win great prizes, including a Family Fun Pack from Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada.
Interviews with Operation Lifesaver and TRM spokespersons, as well as railway imagery, are available upon request.

ABOUT PETER MOHYLA
Peter Mohyla has been with GO Transit for 33 years serving as a special constable and currently as a Community Safety Officer. He also chairs Operation Lifesaver (OL) Canada’s Ontario Committee and sits on OL’s national advisory committee.
For 32 years Peter has been promoting OL’s rail safety messaging and working with a variety of community partners such as emergency responders, partners in the rail industry such as CN, CP, VIA Rail and government agencies such as the Ministry of Transportation.
Peter has been recognized for his devotion to promoting rail safety by being awarded the Ministry of Transportation Road Safety Achievement Award in the category of Road Safety Professional. In 2016, he was awarded Operation Lifesaver’s Roger Cyr award for his work and dedication in promoting rail safety in Canada.
ABOUT ROB ROMANO
Rob started with Bombardier Rail Transportation in 1997 as an Equipment maintainer (Locomotive and Coach repair shops, Rail Equipment Operator). He then began working for GO Transit in 2013 as a Coach Rail Equipment officer and in 2015 transferred to the Rail Maintenance expansion group as a Rail Facility Specialist. Currently, Rob is the Supervisor of Facility maintenance and contract compliance at the Whitby Rail Maintenance Facility. In 2016 he received a Metrolinx Linx award for teamwork (During the construction of Whitby Rail Maintenance Facility).
ABOUT TORONTO RAILWAY MUSEUM (TRM)
Located in Roundhouse Park, in the heart of downtown Toronto, the Toronto Railway Museum shares stories of Toronto’s railway history. The museum’s exhibits include the original, fully restored and operational 120-foot-long locomotive turntable and a carefully chosen collection of full-size railway equipment. The museum also operates a miniature railway and other outdoor exhibits illustrating Toronto’s railway heritage. Exhibits include the original 60,000-gallon water tower, the 650-ton concrete locomotive coaling tower and a collection of historic buildings, including Don Station and Cabin D.
ABOUT TORONTO RAILWAY HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION (TRHA)
Established in 2001 to work with the City of Toronto to establish a railway museum at the John Street Roundhouse, the TRHA is incorporated and is a Federally registered charity. Its primary purpose is to promote the development of the TRM.
